Here’s sue brady with ‘the WIC nutrition buzz’ of the week!
Diabetes, or high blood sugar, affects nearly 24 million americans. That’s 8% of the u.s. population! Chances are you know of someone who is diabetic and regularly watching their sugar intake. Keeping your blood sugar levels from going too high or too low is important. Keeping your blood sugar steady can help you feel more energetic, protect your heart, and keep your appetite in check. Limit foods that are high in simple sugars like candy, soda, and processed snacks. Choose whole grains, like 100% whole wheat or brown rice. Take a look at food labels. Choose foods with 3 grams of fiber or more per serving. Eat balanced meals that have protein, fat and carbohydrates. Get your heart pumping and aim for 30 minutes of exercise everyday. By taking care of yourself today, you insure a lifetime of good health.
